High Plains Grasslands

After leaving the 'pond' on Sat., I continued on my usual route using the gravel road network around the farms and ranches E. of the Hills...my photos from this outing are all grainy and I fear something's wrong with my camera...

The buffalobur is in bloom...it really favors roadsides...

The hay bales are 'in bloom' too...*sigh*...our brief summer is already hinting at its end...I'm seeing the signs...a neighbor's maple tree leaves are a deep coral-orange...

But it is still summer...the fledgling barn swallows, unlike the adults, will pose on the wire...

A Western kingbird, much harder to snap than the Eastern kingbird, managed to hold still long enough for me to get a so-so shot...

A rattlesnake! It's dead, roadkill...this is only the 2nd one I've seen so far...first one was alive but a safe distance...

A mourning dove...they do tend to pose nicely...

Two female Mt. bluebirds...

The chicory is still going strong...

Aha! The chokecherries are beginning to ripen...

The leaf in the foreground nicely following the curve of this common wood nymph...

A red-tailed hawk soaring overhead, scanning a field...

Bouncing bet...one of the escapees from cultivation.

    You've still got some nice photo's there Jann. maybe the sensor on the camera needs cleaning. maybe you left the ISO setting too high ?

    I've visited the USA quite a few times in the past and always hoped to see a Rattlesnake (preferably alive) but I never did, maybe next time.
    The signs of Summer's end and the gradual onset of Autumn are apparent here too unfortunately.
    Nice pics, hope it's nothing too serious with your camera.

    When I enlarged the photo of the red-tailed hawk, it had a stained glass look...loved that and the dove photo, Jann. The chicory and chokecherries are pretty too!

    I've been seeing the signs pointing to the end of summer, too. I have a tree in my backyard that is starting to lose its leaves. Gorgeous shot of chicory. Hopefully your camera was just having a bad day and is not suffering from an illness. ;)
