Nature's Winter Colors

Here's a more complete look at what I discovered on my last drive in the Hills last week...I don't go out much due to how dismal the landscape colors are...brown and white, white and brown...I did see a bald eagle fly by my house today !! And a large V of Canada geese too, so there's hope yet that winter will end...for a bit...

There was a scruffy-looking white-tailed doe, looking just as anxious for spring to be sprung as I am...

A still-frozen French Creek in Custer Park...

The bald eagle at the Wind Cave Nat'l Park NW entrance, yawning over its boredom with winter...and gawky me no doubt...

The coyote on the other side of my parked car, trotting along through the snow...I felt like a wildlife sandwich, eagle on one side, coyote on the other...

Another bald eagle on top of a dead tree, this one further down in Wind Cave NP...it was all branches against the hazy blue sky...

...this eagle was equally uninterested in my presence...off it flew...

Curled, dry leaves looking like pendants hanging down...

One of two bighorn sheep at the Hwy 385/Hwy 16 junction near Hill City, squinting at me against the bright winter sun...they like this spot for some reason, despite the human presence.

  4. You had a really lucky day for wildlife photographing. We never, ever see coyotes in the daylight around here. It is great to see the eagles increasing in numbers.

  8. I'm having trouble being motivated to go out and look for something to take pictures of. It's cold and brown here, too. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and near 50, so I'm hoping for a walk in the woods. By the way, I love the brown on brown of the doe.

  11. I love the wild life that surrounds you. Often times, we forget that there is so much more to this country than paved highways and tall buildings.
