The First Yellows


There were newly sprung yellow wildflowers on Jayne's and my 'field trip' Sat. This (left) is the nuttall's violet. It isn't nearly as common as the wood violet, also yellow. You can tell the two apart by their leaves. There are several varieties of violets growing in the Black Hills.


This is the Western wallflower (center), the only one I've seen so far this year. From the mustard family.
This is golden currant, from the grossularia family like the gooseberry shown in my May 3rd post. These were growing all over at Wind Cave.
